Cacho Negro Volcano

Located within Braulio Carrillo National Park, the conical Cacho Negro Volcano sits less than five miles from the town of Vara Blanca, at the base of Poas Volcano. Cypress and pine forest surround the dormant volcano, and a variety of flora and fauna live on the verdant mountain slopes.

Camping is allowed in Braulio Carrillo National Park, but campers should be aware that there are no facilities located near Cacho Negro Volcano. Trails to the volcano’s summit are almost non-existent. Always consult with a park ranger before trekking out to the volcano, as weather conditions may affect trail safety.
