Tamarindo Services & Facilities
Tamarindo has many of the amenities of a larger city. Travelers should note that there are no gas stations in Tamarindo, though one is slated to open in the near future. The closest station is a 15-minute drive away, in the town of El Llano.
Phones
Pay phones are scattered throughout Tamarindo. Prepaid phone cards can be purchased in local pharmacies or supermarkets for local and international calls. Cell phone reception is decent in town; buy a SIM chip for your own cell, or rent a cell phone for less than $10 a day.
Internet
Internet cafes are abundant and all have high-speed connections. Most charge around $1 per hour. Many hotels and hostels offer Internet access in their lobbies and some have free in-room WiFi.
Post Office
Located in Plaza Conchal; open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- noon and 1-5:30 p.m. (Closed Saturdays)
Banks
There are many banks in Tamarindo, including Scotia Bank, Banco de Costa Rica and Banco Cuscatlan. Each has a 24-hour ATM machine that dispenses both dollars and Costa Rican colones.
Medical Services
The Pacific Emergencies private clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and has 24-hour emergency service with bilingual doctors. 2653-2001. Emergencies 8378-8265.
There are two private hospitals in Liberia – Clinica Biblica (2667-0892) and the San Rafael Arcangel Medical Center (2666-1717). In 2012, a branch of San Jose's CIMA Hospital is scheduled to open in Liberia. There is also a public hospital (2666-0022) in Liberia.
