Budin - Bread Pudding

1 loaf of a 2-day old French bread, sliced
2 1/2 cups sugar
3 cups milk
1 cup water
1 cube butter
4 egg yolks
4 egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Butter bread slices from both sides and place them in a buttered, oven-safe glass pan.
- Heat 2 cups sugar in a saucepan over medium high heat and stir until sugar is golden brown. Add water and bring it to a boil. Pour mix over bread slices.
- Whisk egg whites in a bowl. Add egg yolks, one by one. Add milk, 1/2 cup sugar, and vanilla extract. Pour mix over bread slices.
- Bake at 350° F (177° C) for 40 minutes. Serve with eggnog.
